Bird watching in Bulgaria is a must for those who enjoy the pastime. The mountains, coastline and countryside are home to many species of birds. Along the black sea coast the wetlands provide the perfect environment for waterfowl such as grebes, herons, egrets, ducks and swans along with red breasted geese, pygmy cormorants and dalmation pelicans. Bulgaria is also an important stop over for many migrating birds including honey buzzards, white storks, white pelicans and black kites. The eastern Rodopi mountains has more than 20 species of vultures, eagles, falcons and other birds of prey during the breeding season.
